Planets in a Line – A Parade of Planets from the Perspective of Cottages Under the Śnieżnik Massif

On January 25, 2025, we will witness a unique astronomical phenomenon – the parade of planets. 6 planets of our Solar System – Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune – they line up in the sky almost along one line. This spectacular event will be perfectly visible from the grounds of our Cottage Settlement under Śnieżnik. Check out how to prepare for it!

What exactly will we see in the sky?

Tonight, four bright spots – the planets Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn – will be visible to the naked eye, forming a nearly straight line across the dark sky. The best time to look for them in the southwestern sky, where they will be noticeably brighter than the stars surrounding them. The other two planets, Uranus and Neptune, will also be part of this system, although you'll need binoculars or a telescope to spot them.

What is worth knowing about the planet parade?

This alignment of planets is not only beautiful to look at, it is also a rare astronomical phenomenon. Although all the planets orbit the Sun in a similar plane, their different orbital speeds make it so clear alignment happens very rarely. The next similar opportunity will not appear until 2040. If you want to learn more about the planet parade and astronomy, we recommend visiting AstroLife channel on YouTube platform.

The planets will align almost in one line – What is the best way to observe this phenomenon?

The best time for observations is between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. It is worth going out to the terrace of your house or finding a comfortable place in the vicinity of the Settlement. To find the planetary parade, look towards the setting sun and then move your gaze slightly to the left. The planets will form a line running diagonally up from the horizon.

A warm coat, a comfortable lounger and a blanket will come in handy – winter sky observations require appropriate preparation. We recommend installing applications such as SkyView in advance – it will help you find planets aligned in the sky.

For the brave – astro observations from the top

Some astronomy enthusiasts plan to observe this phenomenon from nearby peaks. However, remember that night mountain hikes are only suitable for experienced hikers. If you are planning such a trip:

  • Bring the right mountain gear and lighting
  • Check the weather forecast carefully
  • Let others know about your plans
  • Charge your phone and take a power bank
  • Don't go to the mountains alone

You will have an equally beautiful view from the area of our Settlement, where you can observe the phenomenon in safe and comfortable conditions.

Why is our Settlement the perfect place for observation?

The settlement at the foot of the Śnieżnik Massif is one of the best places in the Kłodzko region to observe night sky. The location away from city lights ensures minimal light pollution, so the planets will be perfectly visible. The clean mountain air and surrounding forests further enhance the clarity of the sky.

From the terraces of our houses there is a wide panorama of the sky, without obstacles in the form of tall buildings or artificial lighting. Astrology enthusiasts appreciate these exceptional conditions, often choosing our Settlement as a place for night observations as part of astrotourism in the Sudetes.

More than astronomy – winter recreation in the Śnieżnik Massif

A January visit to our Settlement is not only an opportunity to admire the night sky. During the day, you can enjoy the winter attractions of the Śnieżnik Massif - from ski slopes to winter hiking trails.
